Don’t Be Too Polite Girls is a personal and political memoir about life, love, family andpolitics – as
experienced by educator and activist Wendy McCarthy over the course of nearly80 years. It is the story of how her generation of women changed Australia. They fought tohave their voices heard and imagined a different Australia. An Australia where girls had theopportunity to complete a secondary education. Where women who had once missed outon education finally had a chance. Where there was universal access to safe contraceptionand abortion. Where childcare and early learning were accessible and affordable.
Wendy has worked for change across the public, private and community sectors, ineducation, family planning, human rights, public health, overseas aid and development,conservation, heritage, media and the arts. Wendy has a long track record of advocatingcampaigning and fund raising for women’s issues in public life.
